The part-time Flight Instructor is responsible for assisting the lead flight instructor, conducting ground school training at the flight center, conducting flight training at the airport, keeping the flight line and center neat and orderly, overseeing student activities at the airport, and other duties as assigned by the Chief Flight Instructor.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities

1. Effectively organize, teach and evaluate student performance and progress in assigned course offerings in accordance with established syllabi. Assignments may include various delivery formats, methods, work schedules and locations.

2. Evaluate and record student performance and progress according to College and division guidelines and FAA standards.

  1. Maintain current course syllabi and provide student guides for all courses taught in accordance with College and FAA standards.

  1. Attend and serve on assigned and voluntary program and College committees.
  2. Assist with lab sites for student practical experiences and monitor progress.
  3. Assist with the recruitment and orientation of students.
     



Occasional

(10-33%)

 
  1. Regularly engage in professional development activities and keep current with developing trends and ideas in profession.
  2. Assist in the process of requesting and maintaining instructional equipment and supplies for classrooms/laboratories, including air craft.
  3. Assist the supervisor in the budgeting process.
  4. Assist in the maintenance and enhancement of communication within the College and community.
  5. Encourage and foster student participation in professional organizations, College activities and community activities.
  6. Assist with community activities and public relations activities.
  7. Participate in Advisory Committee meetings.

  1. Represent the College in the most positive manner with prospective, former, and current student, staff and the community.
  2. Present oneself in a classroom setting in a manner that is acceptable and consistent with program and College guidelines, policies and practices.

Special Demands:

Position involves sitting or standing in a classroom setting and/or delivering flight instruction in various aircraft. Must be able to satisfy all requirements of a Flight Instructor as defined in FAR Part 141. Required to travel between sites utilizing personal vehicle. Must have valid drivers license, good driving record and provide proof of insurance.

 

Employment with Iowa Lakes Community College is dependent upon successful passage of a criminal background check.

Minimum qualifications:

Required to meet FAR Part 141.37:  

  • At least 300 hours of flight time.

 

Preferred additional requirements:  

  •     Flight instructor’s certificate (airplane category),
  •     An instrument instructor’s certificate (airplane category).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education from an accredited institution or experience in an educational institution. 

 

Salary:   $35.00/Hour
