Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
• Aircraft related Assoc degree or A&P license + a minimum of 2 years experience as a sheet metal mechanic in the aircraft industry.
• With H/S or GED must have a minimum of 4 years experience as a sheet metal mechanic in the aircraft industry.
• Must have experience with basic hand tools and have knowledge of mechanical skills.
• Requires the ability to read, interpret and work from engineering drawings, blueprints, T.O. specs and engineering specifications.
• Ability to assemble close tolerance parts and use hand tools such as pneumatic drills and rivet gun. Must have approved safety shoes.
• Must have own tools. If hired, tools must be shadowed. L-3/IS will provide the material to complete this task. May be required to be certified to operate self-propelled vehicles such as forklifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts and aircraft tow vehicles.
• Must be eligible to work any shift and overtime as required.
• Must be able to obtain security clearance.

Duties / Responsibilities

More comprehensive experience is needed working with precision measuring instruments, micrometers, calipers, tape measures, and standard scales. In lieu of Associates Degree or A&P license must have at least 4 years of heavy sheet metal structures experience performing difficult structural pick-up and rework such as removing, replacing or realigning ribs, longerons, bulkheads, stringers, or fittings in completed skinned assemblies. Have experience using more advanced tools to include but not limited to drills, angle motors, shears, brake, drill press, and pneumatic riveter. Experience with such final assembly operations as pick-up and rework on structures and installation, installing shortages, and bringing up all items to latest engineering changes. Have experience with installation of and fit such items as clamps, brackets, angles, longerons, supports, bulkheads, battery boxes, and component parts such as avionics equipment. Can perform trimming, milling operations, reforming and altering parts and structures as required. Fabricate detail parts such as shims, splices, gussets, angles, brackets, doublers, stiffeners, and patches as well as using shop aids to facilitate assembly and installation as required. Perform other related tasks as required. This is a Service Contract Act (SCA) covered position.
