Summary

The Aircraft Troubleshooting Engineer is responsible for providing technical and engineering support to the aircraft maintenance operation, reviewing all technical directives and issuing engineering documentation as required.

Qualifications

*A minimum of five years of B757 and/or B767 work experience is required with a strong knowledge of aircraft systems, avionics, powerplant and structures disciplines.
*A working knowledge of aircraft maintenance and engineering.
*An understanding of FARs.
*Must be able to excel under pressure.
*The ability to work with computers is invaluable to this position.
*Critical thinking abilities: using logic and analysis to determine strengths and weaknesses of a variety of solutions.
*Able to identify problems, their sources, and their potential solutions while continuing to successfully conduct day-to-day operations without interruption.
*A strong understanding of systems thinking (i.e., both realizing that one piece of an organization has an impact on other components of the organization. Furthermore, navigating that impact successfully).
*The ability to use careful, measured judgment and decision-making: weighing the costs and benefits of a potential action; using discretion.
*Strong communication skills: must be comfortable engaging in a variety of different communicative modes (verbal, non-verbal, and written) and being attuned to others through strong active listening skills.
*Must possess a strong ability to manage one's own time, as well as others' time, to ensure that the work that needs to be accomplished in a given time frame is, in fact accomplished. Hand-in-hand with this ability is the ability to prioritize tasks when given clearly defined goals and objectives.
*Strong working knowledge of one's field or discipline in which one finds oneself engaged on a daily basis. Becoming fully aware and informed of current trends, developments, and changes in the sub-industry is critical for this.
*When necessary, the ability to understand and communicate within a technical or specialized subject-matter, particularly as it pertains to aviation and the aviation industry.

Duties / Responsibilities

*Providing on-site technical support and engineering disposition in order to resolve aircraft problems of all types.
*Acting as a technical liaison with aircraft, engine and component manufacturers, vendors and overhaul agencies about the overhaul, repair and modification of aircraft systems and /or components, as required by airline policy.
*Monitoring aircraft system performance data and recommending action to correct abnormal trends to improve aircraft system reliability.
*Maintaining awareness of FAA regulations and required compliance of FARs, ADs, SBs and North American Airlines maintenance program.
*Developing and implementing engineering modifications and retrofits to the fleet in accordance with OEM service bulletins or other FAA approved data in order to increase operational revenue or reduce operational costs.
*Issuing engineering documentation such as engineering orders, manual supplements and build specifications, as required, to support the aircraft maintenance operation.
*Assisting with part number research in to validate proper aircraft effectivity and interchangeability as necessary.
*Interfacing with Maintenance, Materials, QA, Flight Operations, Inflight and Marketing Departments in order to provide solutions to a variety of technical issues on the fleet.
*Other duties as assigned to assist North American Airlines in achieving its operational goals and objectives.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
