Company History:
In 1972, even before the company opened for business, then President and General Manager John E. Godwin, Jr. predicted that Atlantic Aero was going to be the "Aviation Center of the Southeast." Now in its 29th year of operation, Atlantic Aero is fulfilling Mr. Godwin\nulls prophecy.
Atlantic Aero facilities cover more than 28 acres of the Piedmont Triad International Airport at Greensboro, North Carolina. The company provides comprehensive services to all levels of aviation users.
Located at the Piedmont Triad International Airport (GSO), Atlantic Aero\nulls offices and hangars rank among the most modern, well-planned general aviation fixed base operator (FBO) facilities in the country. Atlantic Aero offers a full range of services to business and private aviation, including jet, propjet and propeller aircraft charter; refueling and terminal services; highly regarded airframe, engine and avionics maintenance; aircraft management; and pilot training. Other FBOs offer similar services, but Atlantic Aero believes its scope and depth of services to be unmatched in the southeast USA.
Atlantic Aero has enjoyed steady and profitable growth since it began operations in October, 1972. Its employees now number more than 100, and the FBO now occupies more than 28 acres at GSO including more than 11 acres of paved aircraft ramps and taxiways.
Services have expanded considerably since 1972. The company now supports a full range of general aviation aircraft, from trainers to large business jets. Refueling and maintenance services are also provided to major airlines and commuter airlines. Our fuel storage facility is served directly by Colonial Pipeline Company.
The company has scored several "firsts." Atlantic Aero was the first at GSO to offer jet charter, morning to midnight maintenance services, international student training, propeller overhaul, aircraft management, heated hangar storage for executive jets up to the Gulfstream IV and other innovative services.
In 1986, Atlantic Aero\nulls charter department entered the overnight feeder freight business, using Cessna Caravans to support the major overnight package express airlines. This segment of business grew rapidly and in 1990, Mid-Atlantic Freight was formed as a separate sister company with common management. Atlantic Aero now provides contract maintenance and administrative support to Mid-Atlantic Freight\nulls operations that include 24 Cessna Caravans flying some 15,000 hours each year.
Among Atlantic Aero\nulls most recent "first" was the development of the 550 Centurion STC which authorizes the company to install the Teledyne Continental Motors IO-550 engine in the Cessna 210. STC development and application of other leading-edge technology to general aviation airplanes is now handled by Aero Modifications & Consulting, LCC., another sister company. Atlantic Aero handles worldwide marketing for Aero Modifications & Consulting\nulls STCs for 200-series Cessnas, including the Cessna Caravan.
